Child-Centered Play Therapy

Evidence-Based, Neuroaffirming Play Therapy for
Children Ages 3-10 in Elm Grove, WI

When Play Is the Language Every Child Gets to Be Heard.

Young children are not small adults. They do not process the world through conversation. They process it through play. Through the stories they tell, the scenes they build, the characters they embody, and the feelings they act out in a space where it is safe to do so.

Child-Centered Play Therapy gives children ages 3 through 10 exactly that space. Evidence-based, neuroaffirming, and built around the way children actually communicate, not the way adults assume they should. The result is a child who feels understood, supported, and equipped with skills that last.

What to Expect From Child-Centered Play Therapy at Depth & Clarity

Sessions at DCP are not about directing your child toward the right answer or teaching them what to say. Your child leads. The play space is intentionally designed to offer a range of materials that invite creative expression, storytelling, and exploration, giving your child the tools to communicate what they may not yet have words for.

Our Approach.
Why It Works Differently

Our approach is grounded in the belief that children have a natural capacity for growth and healing when given the right conditions. The therapeutic relationship, not the therapist's agenda, is what creates change. Over time that safe, consistent relationship becomes the foundation for real, lasting growth. Not just better behavior. A child who genuinely understands themselves.

Caregiver Involvement. You Are Part of This Too.

Caregivers are not on the sidelines at DCP. Regular check-ins are built into the process, giving you the opportunity to share observations, ask questions, and develop strategies to support your child outside of sessions. You will leave with a better understanding of your child and practical tools to strengthen your connection at home.

In Person. At Our Elm Grove, WI Office.

Sessions are 45 to 50 minutes and take place in a dedicated play therapy space in our Elm Grove, WI office, designed specifically to support creative expression, exploration, and connection.

Play therapy is offered exclusively in person because the physical space and the materials within it are an essential part of the therapeutic process.

Private Pay.
What That Actually Means for You

Private pay means your care is never dictated by what an insurance company decides to approve. No diagnostic data shared with third parties. No arbitrary session limits. No treatment plan built around a billing code rather than your actual needs. Just you, your therapist, and the time and space to actually get to the root of it.

Child's Hand and Toys

Play Therapy Is Not the Same as Playing in Therapy.

There is an important distinction that most parents have never been told. Play can be incorporated into many forms of therapy as a tool or activity. Play Therapy is something different entirely. It is a specialized, evidence-based therapeutic approach in which play itself becomes the child's primary means of communication and therapeutic work.

This distinction matters because the outcomes are different. When a child simply plays during a therapy session, the play is incidental. When a child engages in Child-Centered Play Therapy, the play is purposeful, clinically guided, and grounded in a specific theoretical framework that honors the child's natural capacity for growth and healing.

Rather than expecting children to adapt to an adult-centered model of therapy, Child-Centered Play Therapy meets children exactly where they are developmentally. The result is not just a child who behaves better. It is a child who understands themselves better.
